In order for students to receive course-based and/or exam-based accommodations, instructors need to be aware of student requirements for accessibility. For example, if a student requires additional time on exams, or a substitute assignment, the instructor needs to be informed at the beginning of the term.
At the start of each academic term, students request memos outlining their request for accommodation. The memo confirms registration with the RCSD and lists the academic accommodations requested by the student after discussion with an advisor in the RCSD. Students bring their memo to an instructor and use the opportunity to discuss the appropriate accommodations in regard to specific course requirements and required learning outcomes.
The memo's collection, protection, retention and disclosure is governed by provisions of the B.C. Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the university’s Protection of Privacy policy (GV0235).
